Gilles Laporte is a writer, screenwriter, radio and television personality, and lecturer from Lorraine.
In 1997, he turned his attention to historical fiction with ‘Les dernières violettes de La Mothe’ (The Last Violets of La Mothe), a novel about the fall and destruction of the town of La Mothe in Lorraine during the Thirty Years’ War. The book was an immediate success and won two awards: the Prix Plume de Vair and the Prix Sadler from the Académie de Stanislas.
A champion of Lorraine's heritage, he often devotes his writing and lecturing energy to the region's iconic figures and places: Frédéric Chopin, whose ancestors have been from Lorraine since the end of the 17th century (Frédéric, le Roman de Chopin), Otto von Habsburg-Lorraine, the current Duke of Lorraine, one of the great architects of the European Union, who sometimes receives him for fascinating political conversations, always placing women at the centre of each of his works. The sacred feminine is the sole subject of his tetralogy ‘Les Anneaux de la Fiancée’ (The Rings of the Bride). In 2009, volume 3 received the Prix de la Ville de Lunéville.
In 2011, ‘La Fontaine de Gérémoy’ received the Prix de la Société des Ecrivains d'Al
