Recap - Professional workshop on series script development
As part of CinEuro’s overall focus on scenario development, this one-day workshop held in Basel on 29 October concentrated on series, with a focus on how real stories can be transposed into fictional series, particularly those relating to economic policy, banking and tax fraud.
The speakers were the authors of two successful international series, Bad Banks and Die Cum-Ex-Affaire – other people’s money, respectively Jan Galli and Jan Schomburg, both from Germany.
More than 30 workshop participants from Switzerland, Germany and France worked with the two writers on various technical issues using examples from series excerpts, and also raised questions from their own ongoing series projects. Discussions focused in particular on the possibilities and limitations of the ‘writers’ room’ technique, as well as other external coaching methods, the characterisation of different characters and the importance of research.
Conclusion: all participants would have liked to continue the discussion!
