CinEuro Film Lab - Workshop: STOFFENTWICKLUNG ERZÄHLEN IN EINER SERIE

In collaboration with Serien Festival Basel, Balimage invites you to a professional workshop day on script development with a special focus on storytelling in series.
The workshop will be presented with examples from the German-Danish series ‘Die Affaire Cum-Ex’ (‘Other People’s Money’) from 2025 and the German-Luxembourgish series ‘Bad Banks’ (2018) with the two screenwriters
Jan Schomburg and Jan Galli.
The Cum Ex scandal, the biggest tax fraud in history, is based on journalistic research and whistleblowers, and caused a stir in Germany, Denmark and Switzerland. The author of the series, Jan Schomburg, will talk about how he was able to tell a true economic and political scandal in the form of a fictional series. Among other things, he will explain how he managed to adapt this true story into a fictional series, as well as what is real and what is fiction.
The series ‘Bad Banks’ is inspired by the real mechanisms of the financial world and the excesses of investment banking, but it adopts a fictional thriller format. With co-writer Jan Galli, we discuss how to talk about these people without giving them the glamour of other series: how can we talk about financial fraud without making it ‘sexy’? From what perspective should the story be told? And how can greed be treated critically without unconsciously glorifying it?
Both series premiered at the Berlinale and were co-produced by ZDF.
