EUROPEAN STORIES
About EUROPEAN STORIES – TELLING THE STORY OF EUROPE AND ITS SCENES OF POWER
Home to the headquarters of numerous European institutions, Brussels, Strasbourg and Luxembourg are teeming with politicians, attachés, advisers, civil servants, journalists, activists, lobbyists, spies, international organisations, NGOs, foreign delegations, specialist firms, and much more besides.
These centres of power provide the perfect backdrop for projects addressing Europe in all its dimensions (economic, political, geographical, societal, cultural, etc.).
European Stories is therefore one of the thematic areas covered by the CinEuro Film Lab, which comprises three stages of support:
1. Inspiration phase
2. Writing phase
3. Production support phase
Phase d'inspiration
This first phase of the European Stories cycle, which enables filmmakers to identify fresh and inspiring topics, centres on two inspirational visits to Brussels and Strasbourg.
Inspiration Session #1 took place on 10 October 2024 in Brussels, followed by Inspiration Session #2 on 27–28 November 2024 in Strasbourg.
These inspiration sessions are more than just sources of ideas. The proof? Among the eight finalists for the CinEuro Prize, the project #B.I.A.S, directed by Servet Ahmet GOLBOL and co-produced by Impala Filmproduktion (DE) and Backes Production (BE), was conceived during the Inspiration Session #2 in Strasbourg. It was subsequently presented to around twenty funders and the jury during Forum Alentours 2025, illustrating the tangible impact of this initiative in bringing new European voices and stories to the fore.

Writing phase & pre-production mentorship
The second and third phases of the European Stories programme are, exceptionally, being held in parallel. This joint phase begins with an initiative from the Association des Scénaristes et de l’Audiovisuel (ASA), the Association des Réalisateurs et Réalisatrices Francophones (ARRF) and screen.brussels, comprising a series of five writing workshops and coaching to prepare participants for pitch sessions.
The CinEuro Film Lab 2025 programme offers filmmakers the opportunity to pitch their projects, developed during these workshops, at BRIFF 2026 (Brussels International Film Festival, Belgium) and FORUM ALENTOURS 2026 (Strasbourg, France).
The project submission period ran until 31 August 2025. Five projects were then selected to receive a year of tailored support.
